When should you prestige in an idle game?
Prestige when a reset would at least double your total multiplier, or sooner if your next upgrade takes longer to pay back than replaying the run would. Under a 1.5x gain, keep pushing. Between 1.5x and 2x, reset only if progress has stalled.
That is the rule of thumb we use. It works because a pure multiplier speeds up everything: if your income is 2x, every cost on the road back takes half the time. The fine-tuning below handles the cases where the slider is not enough.
Fine-tune it with your own numbers
Many games give each prestige point a flat bonus, for example 2% per point. If your game shows the multiplier directly, use the slider at the top instead.
Mini-story: the day-three wall
Picture a run on day three. The empire has reached the Vending Empire stage, the next asset costs more than an hour of income, and every "best next" purchase now pays back in 40 minutes or more. The reset screen offers +45%.
The slider says keep pushing, so the player does, for one more evening. By morning the reset offer has climbed to +110% and the run is crawling. That is the moment: reset, and the first stretch of the new run (the part that took a whole day last time) goes by in well under half the time.
The best reset feels slightly too late, never too early.

Who should skip this advice
Very first prestige. Many games give a fixed tutorial bonus or need one reset to show you new systems. If the game is nudging you toward your first reset, take it and learn what it offers.
Games with run-based challenges. If a reset also restarts an event, a timer or a daily challenge, the math above ignores that cost.
Players who enjoy the climb itself. Pushing to a wall can be the fun part. There is no penalty for resetting late, only a slower next run.
Anyone looking for real money. Idle tycoon games use pretend money. Cash Empire Clicker's cash is fictional and cannot be cashed out.
The rule helps you go faster, and it is fine to ignore it when going faster is not the point.
How prestige formulas differ
Not every game pays you the same way for waiting. In his 2016 Game Developer series on idle game math, Kongregate's Anthony Pecorella compared prestige formulas in four well-known games. The root used in the formula decides how much more you must earn to double your prestige currency:
Game (as described in 2016)
Prestige is based on
To double it, earn about
Realm Grinder
Square root of max currency earned
4x the previous run
AdVenture Capitalist
Square root of lifetime earnings
3–4x
Cookie Clicker
Cube root of lifetime earnings
8x
Egg, Inc.
Roughly a 1/7 power, per run
128x

The steeper the root, the more a short extra push is worth before you reset.
Quick answers
Is it bad to prestige too early?
Not harmful, just slow. An early reset gives a small multiplier, so you replay the same opening without much speed gain. Under about 1.5x, you usually do better pushing on.
Should I prestige before going to sleep?
It depends on your offline earnings. If offline time is capped or slow, pushing the run overnight gains little. If your assets keep printing at full speed while you are away, keep the strong run going overnight and reset when you are back.
What does prestige mean in a clicker game?
Prestige is a voluntary reset. You give up your current cash and buildings and get a permanent bonus currency in return, so the next run moves faster than the last.
How does prestige work in Cash Empire Clicker?
It is called IPO Reset. The screen shows your multiplier NOW vs AFTER before you confirm, and you earn Investors to spend on permanent upgrades. That is the same comparison the slider on this page makes.
Does the doubling rule work for every idle game?
It is a starting point, not a law. Games with challenges, timed events or prestige layers can change the best timing, so check what a reset actually removes before you confirm.
Prestige in Cash Empire Clicker, 3 steps
Push until the "Best next" card slows down
The game's "Best next" card shows cost, income gained and payback time for every purchase. When those payback times stretch past half an hour, open the reset screen.
Read NOW vs AFTER
IPO Reset shows your multiplier now and after the reset before you confirm. Use the same doubling rule as the slider above.
Spend Investors on permanent upgrades
Investors carry over. Then rebuild with research, managers and the x1.5 ownership milestones on each of the 12 income assets.

Our design decision: we put the NOW vs AFTER comparison on the reset screen itself, because guessing is the worst part of prestige. Honest limit: reaching the top stages takes days, not minutes, by design. If you want a game you can finish this weekend, pick something else.
